EXEMPT FROM OBAMACARE*

The desire to be exempt from the high deductibles and high monthly insurance premiums, or the fines/penalties imposed by the PPACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) aka "Obamacare," are very significant reasons to consider joining a Health Care Sharing Ministry.

Penalties: If a person does not have long term health insurance coverage for at least 9 months of the year, then there may be an IRS penalty.
For 2016: $695 per adult + $347.50 per child not to exceed $2085 total, or the greater of 2.5% of annual household income.
(The maximum penalty is the national average premium for a Bronze plan. If you’re uninsured for just part of the year, 1/12 of the yearly penalty applies to each month you’re uninsured. If you lacked coverage for no more than two continuous months of the year, there is no penalty.)

Networks: Insurance companies want you to receive coverage from their chosen networks of doctors and hospitals. Use a Health Care Sharing Ministry to go to any doctor or hospital you want - they all take cash and will often negotiate a lower fee with you or the Ministry.

Proof of Exemption Status from the GPO:

* page 2893 of U.S. Code 2011 - Title 26 - Internal Revenue Code

(III) members of which retain membership even after they develop a medical condition,
(IV) which (or a predecessor of which) has been in existence at all times since December 31, 1999, and medical expenses
of its members have been shared continuously and without interruption since at least December 31, 1999, and
(V) which conducts an annual audit which is performed by an independent certified public accounting firm in accordance with
generally accepted accouting principles and which is made available to the public upon request.

We recommend three (3) Health Care Sharing Ministries

It's good to have options because one size does not fit all. There may be aspects of one ministry that you prefer over the other.
Both legally fit the definition, provided above, for exemption from IRS tax penalties for not having PPACA compliant health insurance,
as long as an individual or family consistently maintains his/her policy throughout the year. Can you do that?

Mr. Girard, owner of Insure My Parts®, took a step of faith and dropped his major medical insurance plan to join Samaritan Ministries.
Why in the world would an Insurance Salesman do that? He also considered Medi-Share, and it seemed to be the right decision for him.
Now he has discovered Altrua, which is more similar to Medi-Share, and is contracted to offer Altrua's Gold, Silver, and Bronze plans.
Discover what he did, in order to do what most insurance salesmen won't do, by bringing you this information to seriously consider.

SAMARITAN MINISTRIES

1) Members send their monthly payments to either: 1. Samaritan Ministries or 2. Directly to other members to help them pay their bills.
2) Members qualifying needs are published in a newsletter so others can pray for their situation, write notes of encouragement, & send $.
3) Any medical bill larger than $300 may qualify for sharing with other members. (some restrictions apply)
4) Mr. Girard's first payment of $395 felt steep, but ongoing payments ("shares") of $180/month seemed reasonable and budgetable.
($395 = $200 one time enrollment fee + $180 first month payment + $15 admin fee for Save to Share® participation)
5) Save to Share® is optional and affordable for possible "big needs" of $250,000 or more.
6) Easy online enrollment with a credit card. Fits right in with the concept of Self-Serve Insurance®! (although it is not insurance)
7) If other non-tobacco using Christians mention Mr. Girard referred them to Samaritan Ministries upon enrollment, he'll receive referral credit.

MEDI-SHARE

This company is definitely worth considering if you happen to prefer any of the following features:
1) Monthly payments are required to be sent directly to the company. You can always send additional monies to or for people in need.
2) Members qualifying needs are published in a newsletter so others can pray for their situation, write notes of encouragement, & send $.
3) Annual "Deductibles" range from $500 to $10K, which can greatly affect the amount you're required to send in each month.
You will pay more for having certain health conditions and may pay less based upon the results of an optional physical
4) Medi-Share pays your major medical bills; monies go through America's Christian Credit Union
5) There are no annual caps or lifetime limits on the size of your medical bills
6) Currently over 100,000 members nationwide (not available in Montana) - adding to organizational strength
7) Mr. Girard will be happy to help you enroll in the plan that is right for you.

ALTRUA

This company is also worth considering for the following reasons:
1) Agreement with the company's Statement of Faith is easier than getting a letter signed by your deacon, elder or pastor
2) Monthly payments are sent directly to the company. You can always send additional monies to or for people in need.
3) Gold, Silver, and Bronze plans, Standard plans = low "deductible" before cost sharing, or Advantage = higher "deductible"

7) Mr. Girard is contracted with Altrua and is happy to assist you with plans, prices, and enrollment

Disclaimer: Altrua HealthShare is a faith-based medical-need sharing membership. Medical needs are only shared by the members according to the membership guidelines. Our members agree to the Statement of Standards and voluntarily submit monthly contributions into an escrow account with Altrua HealthShare acting as a neutral escrow agent between members. Organizations like ours have been operating successfully for years. We are including the following caveat for all to consider.
This publication or membership is not issued by an insurance company, nor is it offered through an insurance company. This publication or the membership does not guarantee or promise that your eligible medical needs will be shared by the membership. This publication or the membership should never be considered as a substitute for an insurance policy. If the publication or the membership is unable to share in all or part of your eligible medical needs, or whether or not this membership continues to operate, you will remain financially liable for any and all unpaid medical needs.
This is not a legally binding agreement to reimburse any member for medical needs a member may incur, but is instead, an opportunity for members to care for one another in a time of need, to present their medical needs to other members as outlined in the membership guidelines. The financial assistance members receive will come from other members’ monthly contributions that are placed in an escrow account, not from Altrua HealthShare.
